This is ridiculous.

So this kid, Daniel Petric(16 at the time) wasn't allowed by his parents to buy Halo 3. So he sneaks out and buys the game anyway, but gets caught when he returns home. So his dad locks the game up in a lockbox, apparently with a 9mm handgun. Later, he asks his parents to "close your eyes. I have a surprise for you."

And then he shoots them both in the face. His mother died instantly but his dad survived. Apparently the kid feels some remorse, as he and his father had this exchange at some point afterward:

"Dad, I'm so sorry for what I did to Mom, to you and to the family," Daniel Petric said, according to his father. "I'm so glad you are alive."

"You're my son," Mark Petric responded. "You're my boy."

I really just don't understand any of this. Where to start..

Okay, first of all, I'm glad the parents were wise enough to monitor the gaming habits of this(obviously ****ed up) kid, and not let him play games they don't approve of, even if it didn't quite go as planned.

And, seriously, how can you get so pissed off that you'd actually consider doing something as horrible as killing someone over a video game? Especially your ****ing parents! And now he's sorry? Bullshit. He only cares because he's gonna get raped by his cellmate.

The reason I think that is because he obviously didn't care about his parents. How do I know? Because the gun was in the same lockbox as the game. Meaning he had access to the game already, but decided to use the gun to kill his parents anyway.

Noone has blamed this on the actual game yet, but I'm sure it's only a matter of time. The games industry was doing so good too. We weren't blamed for any school shootings recently or anything!

I really should find happier things to post about.

Yeah, negligence was a major factor here. I guess they just didn't realize the kid could get into the lockbox. But why hide a gun and a game together anyway, especially if the kid was so pissed off? I guess they didn't know he was so messed up.

But that's sort of a huge step. From normal to homicidal? Surely there were some signs that he needed therapy before this.

Thanks for the reply.
